Dual Monitors in Ubuntu Linux

A developer values his screen real estate. I am no different. With my latest install of Ubuntu 8.0.4 (Hardy Heron), after I got my basic development apps running, the first order of business was to get the monitors all up and humming.

I'm on a Dell Latitude D820 with a Quadro NVS 110M video card. I had to do two simple things to get my video card cooking with dualies:
sudo apt-get nvidia-glx-new
and then,
sudo apt-get nvidia-settings
Before you change anything, back up your xorg.conf
cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf ~/
After that, it's relying on the sweeto display options given in the Nvidia X Server Settings under X Server Display Configuration. Make sure both monitors are enabled then drag and drop to position monitors on the left or the right. I'm also using the TwinView, allowing me to drag windows from screen to screen. Separate X Servers was nice, but precluded this option. Try to apply the options. Most likely, all options won't be able to be saved, so Save to the X Configuration File, save, quit, logout, log back in, enjoy the nVidia splash screen and the pleasure that is Ubuntu.
